Sommer im Kiez und zugleich ganz weit weg – diese Mischung bringt das STORY OASE FESTIVAL zum zweiten Mal nach Berlin.
Das internationale Erzählkunst-Wochenende lädt vom 29. August bis 1. September dazu ein, den Spätsommer auf der Kulturinsel im Ernst-Thälmann-Park (Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg) zu genießen, während 15 internationale und lokale Erzählkünstler:innen ihre Geschichten aus aller Welt performen. Auf Deutsch und Englisch. Ein sommerliches Getränk in der Hand und Berlin als Hintergrund – so lässt es sich wunderbar in die Ferne träumen.
Mit ihren frei erzählten Geschichten lassen die Storyteller ganz neue Welten in den Köpfen der Zuhörenden entstehen. Mit einem Fuß in den Geschichten, mit dem anderen im Hier & Jetzt. Nur mit Sprache, Mimik und Gestik werden die Bilder lebendig. Erzählkunst wird auch als „Kino für Arme“ bezeichnet, denn sie braucht weder Bühnenbild noch Requisiten oder Technik, um die Imagination des Publikums anzuregen. Keine vorgefertigten Bilder steuern die Fantasie des Publikums, sondern die Geschichten werden plastisch und lebendig IN den Zuschauern DURCH die Kunst der:s Storytellers. So schlägt diese Kunstform eine Brücke zwischen Menschen und Generationen, über Ländergrenzen und unterschiedliche Erfahrungshorizonte hinweg und verbindet das Publikum im gemeinschaftlichen Erleben.

Die Feder und der Spiegel. Geschichten einer Reise (DE)
Flughafen Bari Palese. Nach dem Check-in drehe ich mich um und entdecke sie, hinter einer Säule versteckt. Meine Mutter lächelt mich an und schiebt unauffällig die Tasche zu mir. Seit Jahren schmuggle ich in dieser Tasche regelmäßig Tonnen von Lebensmitteln nach Deutschland. „Damit du nicht verhungerst“ sagt sie zu mir.
Eine humorvolle autobiographische Liebesgeschichte zwischen Mutter und Tochter verbindet sich mit unterschiedlichen Reise-Erfahrungen auf dem Weg zum selben Ziel: sich finden und neu erfinden. Eine Performance von Storytelling und Musik mit Maria Carmela Marinelli (Erzählerin) und Elettra Bargiacchi (Musikerin) auf Deutsch und Italienisch.

The invisible beauty of acceptance (EN)
The world around us is a set of impressions, stimuli, new and old images, – and deep down – memories. A reflection – of the mirror – is something that, although it seems unchanged for a long time, is constantly evolving. What do we do with these pictures? How do we look at our own face in the mirror? Is the individual able to „create order“ among the important or seemingly insignificant moments of the past? Is there anything worth changing? Is it possible to beautify or improve a given moment? Boglárka Klitsie-Szabad searches for the answers to the questions above through personal stories, reminiscences and folklore texts in her new programme first to be seen in Germany.

The Donkey’s Jaw (EN)
“What kind of stories did you grow up with?” Raphael Rodan asks the audience and casually adds “for me, these were the stories where God is the bad guy and women have no place but as a rib covering a man’s lungs, the notorious stories of the Old Testament.”
In “The Donkey’s Jaw”, a 60-min storytelling show with live music, Rodan strips ancient myths like Cain and Abel, Samson and Delilah and King Saul of their religious connotations and revives them with the light of his own personal life experiences. He tells about growing up in modern Israel, falling in love with his first girlfriend, feeling jealousy towards his brother and getting rejected by his father. While gracefully shifting from salty humour to moments of great depth, he uses the stories to reflect together with the audience on the universal topics that are as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago.
The storytelling is accompanied by the angelic singing of singer-songwriter Erik Sjøholm, all with a hint of Leonard Cohen in the air.

Who cares for Death? – a performance about the inevitable concept of death (EN)
This is a storytelling performance centred around the inevitable concept of death. As death is the ultimate consequence of life, the focus is on how one can prepare for life in the face of such certainty. The performance is constructed around the Norse poem, „Hyndlaljod“ (also known as the „Poem/Sound of Hyndla“), which explores how life and death should arm the individual.
In both the poem and the performance, there is an encounter between Freya, the goddess of love who rides a pig, and Hyndla, a Jotun woman and volva, who rides a wolf. In the performance, they meet in a world that is on the brink of collapsing, and together, they journey towards the realm of death.
The performance frequently features Hel, the Queen of Death from Norse mythology. Often perceived as a greedy and vengeful ruler, this performance presents a fresh perspective on the character of death. In addition to the Norse material, the performance also incorporates episodes of autobiographical content. The aim is to gain insight into the loneliness and care that comes with facing death. It also seeks to explore how one can construct their reality through narratives in a world perceived as fragmented and fraught with crises – a cradle of polarization – and how one can navigate these crises without losing hope for the future.
