Geoffrey van der Ven
What’s the difference
Somewhere inside the swan, there is still an ugly duckling and somewhere inside the Instagram gay, there is still a kid that was bullied.
Turns out you can’t code-switch your way out of shame.
From The Netherlands, Geoffrey van der Ven brings an intimate performance about the shame that remains, long after you’ve left the pond.
He combines storytelling, personal narratives, and mythology to create an evening of connection, recognition, and discomfort.
Writer and storyteller Geoffrey van der Ven is known for his critical work exploring queer and BIPOC experiences. In his first solo show “Nothing New", he highlights the queer history of Africa. Previously, he won the title of "Poet of the Year" at the Queer & Feminist Poetry Awards and received an honourable mention at Button Poetry. He has performed at major Dutch venues and events such as the Nieuwe Luxor Theater and Rotterdam Pride."
Next up: Open mic! Bring your stories – tell them with gestures and expressions, with words and wit, with music and song! Whatever you’ve got – up to 10 minutes, whether myths, fairy tales, personal anecdotes or made-up tales – you’re welcome!
Eintritt Everyone pays what they can. As a guide: to enable us to continue paying the bills for the storytelling stage, we would be grateful for a "regular admission" fee of € 15 or more 🙂, but anyone who cannot afford this is still welcome to come and pay less.
