The basic course in Free Storytelling

Expanding one’s own storytelling skills, getting to know stories from all over the world and finally being able to tell a story of one’s own choice freely, vividly and excitingly for an audience – these are the goals of the Gundkurs of Erzählkunst e.V. On 10 weekends in 10 months, the further training teaches the basic skills of free storytelling.

The participants intensively try out the telling of fairy tales, myths, literary and biographical material. The focus of the training is on detaching oneself from textual models, creating one’s own strong images, a dramaturgical structure and the implementation in a poetic language. Further topics are rituals, interaction with the audience and the use of objects on stage as well as organisational and legal knowledge about the storytelling profession. Regular body and voice training and exercises in stage presence expand the participants’ ability to express themselves. Fairy tale theory and an introduction to Greek mythology round off the practical course programme. The course ends with a public presentation by all participants.

A team of experienced professional storytellers and educators with a background in acting, storytelling, theatre, voice and movement pedagogy and science lead the training. Throughout the course, Soogi Kang accompanies and supervises the course participants as a contact person from the  Lecturer Team.

A visit to a public storytelling event such as the Open Storytelling Stage of the Erzählkunst e.V. as well as a shadowing session with one of the lecturers are an obligatory part of the training.

The training language is German.
